This post will be a short post that will help you in personal development. I’ve been meaning to share some ideas with you guys for a while now. As I’m almost in my final year of college, I am surrounded by people who, forced or not, are starting work. There’s no problem there, BUT…
You might ask yourself “But what?”.. Well, there would be no problem in starting work if you don’t let that take away everything you wanted from life until that moment.
Maybe this is still a little blurry, so I’ll try to give you a situation. Let’s say you are most happy when you are out, with your friends, having fun. You do that all the time. A week without going out with them seems like forever. When one of them says they don’t want to go out you always give them the “Oh come on!! You’re so lame and saaad for staying home!”, because you want them there, you want to have fun with them. Then, that awful moment comes, when you must get a job. You do that and you just forget everything you loved until then. Your friends go out, and you say “Neeh! I’ll pass! I’d rather stay in” and you go to work the next day and you have no idea why half of you seems like it’s missing.
It happens so often and so many times unconsciously, that people usually have no idea why they feel so lost, so out of being themselves. It’s like their color used to be bright yellow and now it’s plain grey.
If that’s how you feel, then think about the last time you did something you actually enjoyed doing. If it’s a long time since that happened, try these things for a change:
- the next time a friend asks you to go out, don’t pass on it.. Go out! If you have to be up early in the morning, then don’t stay until 5 AM and don’t drink very much, but still, go! More important than the fact that you’ll feel like a zombie the next morning, is the fact that you will actually feel alive again!
- tomorrow after work, instead of going home and lose time snoozing in bed, try to take a walk in the park, call a friend and go grab a pizza, a piece of cake, or anything that you don’t do every day, try to read a book, ride a bike, lay on the grass, ANYTHING that you enjoy doing and haven’t done in a while
- plan a weekend trip, go hiking, go to the beach, just GO!
You see, the problem is not the fact that you have to work, but the fact that you enter this system where apparently no one is allowed to be himself. You are not allowed to be hung over after celebrating your best friend’s birthday, you are not allowed to take a day off on your own birthday, you are not allowed to laugh at work because it’s disturbing everyone else. WHY? Go live your perfect and positive life!
I believe in a perfect world where giving 100% on your work could balance with letting you be yourself, take a break when you need it and not bringing you near collapse, and I believe this starts with us and then with the positive people around us. Could it happen?
